Sydney Wedding // Liz + Brendan
Liz + Brendan’s spring wedding in Sydney was an absolute joy to photograph! As documentary wedding photographers living in New Zealand we jumped at the opportunity to capture this very special wedding day across the ditch. We love to travel, and when we do travel to photograph weddings all over the world, we make sure we also have a wee holiday and catch up with friends. Sydney is one of our favourite cities in the world. It’s such a vibe!
When we got to Liz’s family home for her getting ready photos, her folks had sweetly dedicated and done up their front spare room for her to hang her wedding dress and get ready in. There were gorgeous retro portraits in frames of her grandparents on their wedding day, along with bouquets of soft roses, a new bottle of perfume and her white high heel shoes. It was a beautiful space to photograph her bridal details and dress.
We loved documenting Liz’s makeup and hair being done. Her mum was there, right next to her and they have such a close bond. The kitchen and living room was soon filled with all her bridesmaids and siblings. The atmosphere was buzzing.
Meanwhile… Brendan and his boys were suited and booted in their black tie. Rob arrived to photograph the usual groomsmen “cuffs and bants” while the guys had a laugh and a whisky or two.
Liz and her girls decided it was time to crack open the champers which was a bit of a hoot. Her bridesmaids all had navy blue PJ’s and dresses which was super cute!
Liz’s beautiful mamma and sister helped her get into her wedding dress and shoes. It was such a sweet moment when her dad came in to see her all ready for her big day.
Liz’s mum gave her a very precious family heirloom to wear.
Meanwhile… the boys were still drinking whisky.
“Your chauffeur awaits madam…”
How cute does Liz + Brendan’s Labrador Benji look in his black tie? The cutest!
A white Bentley and chauffeur collected Liz and dropped her down to the family church. There’s a lovely family history and tradition associated with St Joan of Arc, as Liz’s parents and brother got married there too. The brick church is a wonderful space for taking photos as there’s lots of light, two levels and a really long aisle which was great for capturing all the entering and exiting emotions.
Liz’s mum helped with her windswept veil as she got ready to walk down the aisle with her dad. Andie made sure she was upstairs in the gallery at the back of the church so she could photograph Liz’s super long train from behind when she walked down the aisle. Rob was downstairs, positioned at the front of the church to capture Liz and her dad walking in together and of course Brendan’s reaction. The beauty of having two photographers!
We love all the little faces Liz was giving Brendan throughout the ceremony. She was such a beautiful, beaming bride!
Those ‘Just Married’ happy vibes.
After the ceremony, we wrangled everyone together for a few family photos outside the church and one big group shot of everybody using the drone.
The next stop on Liz + Brendan’s dream day was to Blackburn Gardens in Double Bay for their wedding party and couple portraits.
Blackburn Gardens is a beautifully restored heritage garden and has spectacular views out across Sydney Harbour. The garden adjoins the Murray Rose Pool and Seven Shillings Beach and we LOVED the purple jacaranda’s, seaside murals and secret garden.
“You’re terrible, mural…”
The light was next level amazing in little patches throughout the garden. These stairs were perfectly lit by the late afternoon sun to really show off Liz’s beautiful wedding gown.
A spherical sculpture made a great spot for a ring shot.
After completing an epic shoot with this dream team, we set off down the road to Zest Point Piper for the wedding reception. The venue is at the Royal Motor Yacht Club and the balcony looks out across Sydney Harbour… a great place for sun downers and to party the night away.
The beautiful wedding space at Zest (which has won several awards for best wedding venue in Sydney!) was styled to perfection. We loved all the candles and the wall of fairy lights behind the head table.
After some emotional and very funny speeches, Liz + Brendan kicked off the dance floor and it WENT OFF until the final song of the evening which was ‘The Voice’ by John Farnham (Aussie legend). Some of the best photos of the day were on the dance floor as our happy couple were lifted high on to the shoulders of their family and friends to party the night away. We had an absolute blast!
Liz + Brendan: “Our wedding photos are nothing short of perfect.
We wanted natural wedding photos that weren't overly posed or forced, but that captured the mood and feeling of the day - and that's exactly what we got. Robin + Andie have such an eye for capturing the emotional/funny/beautiful moments from the day so that in years to come we will be brought straight back to how we felt in those moments.
That being said, they provide fantastic direction during the couple portrait shoots, so that the more formal shots are also absolutely stunning. The finished gallery is exceptionally high-quality.
They are very easy-going and relaxed, yet very professional and the kind of personalities you want with you all day on your wedding day.
Robin + Andie went above and beyond to ensure we had images that we absolutely loved and the results absolutely show.
We are absolutely stoked to have phenomenal photos that we will cherish for the rest of our lives.”
