Milton Street Substation Wedding Photography + Film

Kia ora, we're Robin + Andie, a wedding photography and film studio who've shot a good few weddings at the Milton Street Substation in Christchurch.

A restored substation, all brick and steel, in the middle of the city. It's about as far from a marquee on a lawn as you can get in Canterbury, and that's the point.

Shooting at the Substation

Texture is what this building gives you. Brick, steel and worn surfaces photograph completely differently to painted walls or hedges, and they give a gallery a grit and a mood that garden venues can't.

Because it's a single open space, the whole day happens in one room, so nothing gets lost in transit and the energy builds rather than resetting each time people move.

The courtyard is the other half of it. Outdoor space and daylight right there, so a day can move between the industrial interior and open air without going anywhere, and it works whatever the weather does.

And being central means the city is right there. Streets, laneways and hard edges within a short walk, so an urban wedding actually gets to look urban.

Our approach

Natural, documentary-led and unobtrusive. We photograph what happens rather than staging it, so the day runs at your pace.

That's Wedding Photos With Good Vibes® in practice. Calm on the day, and photos and films that carry the real feeling of it.

Wedding films at the Substation

You can book a wedding film on its own, or alongside your photography.

Elopements and smaller weddings

The space works for a small group as well as a full celebration, and an industrial backdrop gives an intimate wedding a completely different character to a garden one.
