Mt Vernon Lodge Wedding Photography + Film

Mt Vernon Lodge sits high above Akaroa, looking down over the harbour and out across the hills. It's one of the most sought-after spots on Banks Peninsula for good reason: private, unhurried and completely removed from the rush, while still being minutes from the middle of town.

We're Robin + Andie, a wedding photography and film studio based here on Banks Peninsula, and Mt Vernon is our local. We've lost count of the weddings we've photographed and filmed there.

Why we love shooting here

The thing that makes a Mt Vernon wedding different is that everyone stays put. Guests are on site, nobody's watching the clock for a drive home, and the party runs late. That changes the whole feel of a day, and it shows up in the photos. The evenings there are some of the loosest and most fun we shoot all season.

Knowing the property also means we know where to go when the weather turns, which it can on the Peninsula. There are sheltered corners that still give you the view, and we know how the light moves across those hills through the afternoon, so we're not hunting for it while you're waiting.

Our approach

Calm, documentary and out of your way. We photograph and film what actually happens rather than staging it, so your day runs at its own pace. Natural light, unposed moments, relaxed portraits, and the Akaroa harbour doing the heavy lifting in the background.

Elopements and small weddings

Mt Vernon works just as well for a handful of people as it does for a full wedding. We photograph elopements and smaller Akaroa celebrations there regularly, and the approach doesn't change.
