New Years Eve Wedding // Shannon + Dobby
If you’re ever wondering whether it’s a good idea to get married on New Year’s Eve, let us point you firmly in the direction of Shannon + Dobby’s wedding at Lake Brunner. Equal parts emotional, hilarious, romantic and unhinged – this one was SO much fun!
We kicked off lakeside with both Shannon and Dobby getting ready just a few doors down from each other. Champagne breakfast? Naturally. Tears? Oh yes – the good kind. The rooms were filled with mums, mates, music, and the kind of chaos that always makes for the best candid moments. Between last-minute mirror checks and popping bottles, it was clear this crew came ready to celebrate hard.
We love it when our grooms sneak in a bit of adventure before they say I do. Dobby went out wakeboarding in the morning. As you do!
Shannon + Dobby’s lakeside ceremony was heartfelt, funny, and completely true to them. The group selfie with all their guests in the background was such a fun touch, and a doggy ring bearer is always a cute moment. Their epic first kiss on the shores of Lake Brunner was one to remember, and the rice paper confetti made for the perfect just-married exit..
After the ceremony, our newlyweds headed out to make waves on their boat. It was such a fun moment to photograph and the perfect way to soak up the just-married buzz. Afterwards, we made a quick stop at the Moana Railway Station, a sweet little slice of vintage West Coast charm, before wandering off to the Lake Brunner swing bridge. Slung across the shimmering water and surrounded by native bush, it gave us that dreamy soft light you only find on the West Coast of New Zealand.
After the boat trip, Shannon + Dobby met up with their wedding party for barefoot lake hangs and photos.
Shannon + Dobby and their crew kicked off the party by handing out shots as they arrived at the marquee. Safe to say, the tone was set for one hell of a night.
After dinner and speeches (check out their reaction to a cringey speech haha!) we snuck away with Shannon + Dobby for sunset portraits and found pockets of wild light dancing on the lake – the kind of glow that feels like it was made just for them.
Did we mention that all the best summer weddings have an ice cream cart? It’s not just nice to have… it’s a must have ;)
And then... the NYE party.
Let’s just say the dance floor exploded. There was glitter. There were questionable dance moves. There was possibly a conga line. The countdown to midnight was LOUD, wild and full of love. Such an epic way to kick off a marriage and ring in a brand new year.
Shannon + Dobby, thank you for inviting us over to the West Coast. Your day was everything – tear-jerking, belly-laughing, joy-filled perfection.
Shannon + Dobby “Robin + Andie were absolute legends, who absolutely blew our minds with their photos. On the wedding day, it was like they were there just capturing all those little moments you don't even think about, but will treasure. They captured beautiful, natural photos, and know what they are doing with angles and poses, but make you feel comfortable and at ease. Could not recommend them enough to capture your special day.”
