Hanmer Springs Wedding // Kim + Matt

Kim and Matt’s Hanmer Springs wedding at Braemar Lodge was simply perfect. Not only had our lovely couple chosen a wonderful Canterbury wedding venue to celebrate their big day, but they had booked out the entire lodge so that their friends and family could stay on Sunday night. What a treat! New Zealand is well known for its luxury lodges, and Braemar Lodge and Spa is right up there with the very best if you’re looking for somewhere super special to celebrate your wedding day in the South Island. Here are a few of our favourite photos from this relaxed and elegant wedding of dreams!

Kim and her girls had a gorgeous room to get ready in at the lodge for their big day ahead. The balcony overlooking Hanmer’s hills and mountains was the perfect place to pop a bottle of Champagne! Kim did her own make up with such impressive precision, and the talented Kelly Sheppard styled her hair (lovely Kelly is pictured below, making a bridesmaid laugh). We were blown away by how incredible Kim’s hair looked. Seriously impressive and the best ‘up do’ we saw in 2021 without a doubt! Kim’s floral hair piece by Bourbon Rose was also next level!

Matt and his boys were also able to get ready at the lodge, and their stone coloured suits looked very smart indeed. The boys had to make an effort as Kim’s dress made her look like a Goddess! See below for our list of wedding suppliers and vendors.

Robin loves to do creative ring shots and was able to use some of the lodge’s books from their library to create some truly unique images. The ‘Endless Love’ book with the wedding bands placed together as an infinity symbol was perfect for our happy couple.

Despite the possibility of rain, the ceremony was held outside and we were delighted! The moody clouds and bright colours of the yellow wedding flowers were a striking contrast. It was a beautiful ceremony which was followed by a small amount of group photos on the lawn. It’s always great when our clients keep their group and family photos to just the ‘must have’ shots and not every single possible combination of aunty and uncle, haha. We firmly believe that you shouldn’t feel like you’re on a full day photo shoot on your wedding day, as there’s partying to be getting on with! We had lots of fun with the bride squad photos before if felt like snow was on the way…

An amazing wedding menu was accompanied by some delightful and emotional speeches. We love photographing the reactions of our bride and groom and their guests when they are listening to speeches! There are always just so many classic facial expressions to capture.

Braemar Lodge has some gorgeous designer wallpaper which made great ‘flower walls’ for our wedding portraits inside. We also lit some candles to give the lodge a cosy vibe, and it looked just like it had been set up for a styled shoot!

As night fell, the newly-weds cut their cake and during first dance, Kim was literally swept off her feet by Matt! Their wedding day felt like it couldn’t possibly be any more magical than it was, but then it started snowing!! We left our happy couple partying late into the night with their best friends and family in one of the most beautiful wedding venues in Canterbury. What a blast!
