Our Honeymoon // Tokoriki Island Resort

Our honeymoon was the dream! We booked Tokoriki Island Resort in Fiji for our honeymoon for several reasons. Firstly, it’s an adults-only boutique luxury island resort and secondly it’s been awarded ‘Best Hotel’ in the South Pacific by several trusted luxury travel publications including Condé Nast Traveller. Having worked in luxury travel for many years overseas and having photographed some of the best hotels in the world… you could say that we weren’t just going to settle for anything less than incredible for our honeymoon! Fiji seemed like the obvious choice for tropical goodness with just a short flight from New Zealand.

Our beautifully designed beachfront bure had its own plunge pool and faced outwards towards the coral sand and sparkling Pacific. We felt so lucky to be in Fiji at last and upon arrival we felt totally at home. It truly was a restful and relaxing break staying in our very own little love shack that was surrounded by white sand and swaying palms.

How heavenly… to be able to just stop and do nothing! Perhaps the daily massages at the spa had something to do with how relaxed we felt during the 5 days we spent on the island. Or perhaps it was the champagne by the pool!

We were reminded that rest and relaxation is so important in life and we must make time for it. Our trip was peppered with sun lounging and naps, reading and snorkelling, fun and adventure and bubbles and blessings.

When we eloped in New Zealand we just said the legal script that day to tie the knot. It was a very low key but super fun day. (You can read all about our elopement on our Blog!) Eloping also meant that we had more money to spend on our epic honeymoon!

In Fiji the team at Tokoriki kindly arranged and hosted a very special wedding blessing for us! What the heck is a wedding blessing you might ask? Well, on the beach we were able to say some personal vows to each other and the local Fijian holy man popped over by boat from a neighbouring island, held our hands together and blessed our rings. It was a once in a lifetime experience. #blessed!

We wrote our personal vows on the back of Tokoriki Island Resort postcards.

MUA Komai came over to the island from Nadi to do Andie’s hair and makeup for the beach blessing. Yeap… just like our elopement in New Zealand we did all our own photos for our blessing and honeymoon in Fiji.

How cute is the love heart on the sand that the team made from red hibiscus? Tokoriki also generously gave us a hand tied bunch of white frangipani and a fresh island flower lei to wear around our necks. As you do when chilling in the South Pacific.

After our wee blessing the hotel kindly ensured we had a bottle of Moet on standby to toast… they also cleverly had some tissues on standby too which were very much needed after we said our personal vows to each other. Haha.

As the sun set on another beautiful day in Paradise we set up a few more tripod and trigger shots of us having fun on the beach together. Rob totally nailed the ‘island time’ brief with his shirt.

Have you ever cried when you had to leave a place? The Isa Lei (farewell song) will do that to you. The Fijian team sang to us with all their hearts when we had to leave the island. We were so well looked after and spoilt beyond belief by everyone at Tokoriki Island Resort. From stunning sunsets to sensational food… It was the BEST honeymoon ever! Take us back x

Robin + Andie: “We highly recommend Tokoriki Island Resort if you are looking for somewhere next level for your honeymoon. The team at Tokoriki are so kind and welcoming and looked after us so well. The whole place has the most relaxing vibe. It truly is the most magical place. We are beyond grateful to everyone at the resort who made our stay so extraordinary. Vinaka”
