Akaroa Micro Wedding // Nicola + Matt

Our gorgeous Aussie and South African couple couldn’t have chosen a better place in New Zealand to get married. Akaroa certainly has it all! Not only is it one of THE MOST beautiful South Island wedding locations to tie the knot, but there are so many cool places for photos and to truly celebrate the big day in style. Our happy couple Nicola + Matt chose a charming Airbnb villa with harbour views to host their best friends from Auckland and closest family (who were able to visit NZ via the Trans-Tasman bubble) for their micro wedding. As an incredible treat for their guests, Nicola + Matt embarked on their special day together with their nearest and dearest on board a privately chartered ‘Akaroa Dolphins’ harbour cruise. What a way to begin your wedding celebrations with leaping dolphins, seals, penguins and spectacular scenery at your fingertips… oh and a glass of wine or two! Albie the dolphin dog also provided lots of entertainment and cuddles, while local restaurant Bully Hayes provided coffee and breakfast, which was a warming addition to this incredible boat trip.

The weather was just perfect for a New Zealand winter wedding, with blue skies and sunshine all day! After the wild dolphin trip it was hair and make-up time with Hannah + Swaye from Akaroa Hair Studio who came up to the villa for our bride and her best friend. These guys are the dream team for Akaroa wedding hair and make up… so much fun and super talented, too!

After an intimate wedding ceremony conducted by our lovely local celebrant Phillipa Linton in the garden of the villa, we did a few group shots for our bride and groom with their loved ones and then headed off with our newly-weds to capture some incredible shots to salute their wedding day.

We had arranged in advance private access to The Giants House in Akaroa, for Nicola + Matt’s wedding portraits, which is a magical garden created by local Akaroa artist Josie Martin. It was so much fun to photograph our bride and groom in this outrageously cool setting! We like to scout out the best and most interesting locations for our wedding clients. As the sun began to set on this fabulous wedding day, we headed down to Daly’s Wharf for some spectacular drone shots at golden hour.
