Destination Wedding // Chris + Dan
The only way to describe Chris + Dan’s destination wedding is… a bit extra! Mainly because our lovely couple allowed for extra time with their friends and family who all flew in to Hamilton Island in Queensland, Australia for a fun four day wedding event! This wedding was seriously next level and we loved documenting every minute.
After arriving and settling in to island life… Chris + Dan chartered a yacht to take guests to see Whitehaven Beach which is in the Whitsundys. This was a super fun day for the boys catching up with friends and family along with lots of snorkelling and sailing adventures.
The night before the main event (the wedding!) Chris + Dan’s parents hosted a ‘Parents Welcome Event’ at the yacht club. Sunset canapés and cocktails were served along with lots of lovely speeches. It was a spectacular place for a party and to watch the sun set on Hamilton Island.
We’re always there to capture our couple’s reactions to speeches. The laughter, the shame, the tears and the joy! As documentary wedding photographers… that’s just how we roll!
The welcome party on the Bommie Deck was wrapped up not long after sunset as everyone needed to be on good form for the big day! Everyone had a blast, but left at just the right time ;)
Chris + Dan got ready for their big day at Hamilton Island’s Luxury Yacht Club Villas. Groom prep happened in separate villas and they were both surrounded by their friends and family. It was a really fun vibe. Both opted for classic tuxedo’s which always look super smart and stylish.
You know you’re cracking open the champers in Aussie when you’re being watched by a wallaby!
Chris + Dan both work in the airline industry and are based in Hong Kong (so are many of their friends who attended the wedding celebrations). Dan is a pilot and Chris works in air traffic control. They both love to travel and had planned the most incredible round the world honeymoon which happened right after their wedding. The photo below is of Chris and his Best Man (who is also a pilot) doing a bit of plane spotting together from the deck of their villa.
Chris + Dan love the little chapel on Hamilton Island, but didn’t want to get married inside a church. Just as well, as it was such a hot day! The grounds beside All Saints were simply perfect for the ceremony location. Everyone attending was given a white parasol to help keep the hot sun off. They work really well and look pretty in the photos too!
Chris + Dan’s beloved mammas walked them down the aisle. This was a very sweet moment!
With heartfelt vows, rings exchanged, the register signed and a beautiful first kiss later… these two officially became husband + husband! Everyone was so delighted for them.
We just love doing one big group photo right after the ceremony! This is the whole gang outside All Saints Chapel. Everyone in this photograph flew in from all over the world to attend this epic destination wedding.
After a few family photos we headed off with Chris + Dan’s wedding party to do a few portraits on the beach. The group was made up of best friends and Dan’s sister. We got so many great shots of them all hanging out together. The location was simply epic for wedding photographs! What’s not to like about a tropical beach location?
On Hamo the only way to travel around the island is by beach buggy. It was so fun!
Champagne showers down by the marina is one of our favourite shots to do. Aim it at us preferably ;)
Before heading off with just Chris + Dan for more portraits we stopped off at the outdoor wedding venue at the end of Catseye Beach to check out the set up. It was looking good!
We took our beach buggies up to One Tree Hill for dusky sunset photos. The boys were so relaxed by this stage they were rocking it like Gucci models.
As the sky turned pink (like it does every evening on Hamo) we headed back down to the reception… and boy did those boys make an entrance!
We always make sure we get lots of lovely photos of grandparents at weddings. It’s such a special time. We love this photo of Dan’s 101 year old Nona with a glass of champagne in her hand. Isn’t she just gorgeous? Sadly, she is no longer with us, but this photo lives on and is so precious now.
After a delicious, yet delicate feast of family style sharing platters the party kicked off in style…
Nut bush city limits… Thanks Mr + Mr Ginefra for having us along for the ride. We had a blast!
Chris + Dan: “Robin + Andie are both lovely! They are outstanding photographers who blended in with our guests and understood our requests. Their style of photography captured our special weekend in the moment and will allow us to remember all the happy and wonderful moments as they happened. We highly recommend them for any wedding, local or afar!”
