Christchurch Wedding // Johanné + Josh

Johanné + Josh’s Christchurch wedding was such a joy to photograph. From St Barnabas in Fendalton to the Port Hills and then onward to Mount Pleasant Centre… our gorgeous city really has it all when it comes to the best locations to get married!

Johanné and her girls got ready at an AirBnB in Merivale which was the perfect space for the lovely Chloe Jacobs MUA to work her magic.

Chloe Jacobs is such a wonderful person to have around during bridal prep. Not only is she super chilled, she brings the good vibes and next level make up skills with her too. We loved working with Chloe so much Andie booked her to do her own wedding makeup. She’s that blimmin’ good!

Chloe created smokey eyes for Johanné which worked beautifully with her stunning cheekbones and eyebrows.

Chloe Jacobs MUA + Michelle Robertson (hair) show ‘em how it’s done.

Josh got ready with his boys and wore white Campo Veja trainers. We love it when our couples wear something a little different from the norm on their wedding day! Josh’s groomsmen were also gifted with some personally branded sunglasses which was a really nice touch and the perfect accessory for a summer wedding in Christchurch NZ.

The boys buttonholes by Bodeine were super cute.

As Johanné was getting ready, her parents were getting super excited! It was really nice to see them both still so in love and having fun together!

First look for mum and dad and Johannés gorgeous bridesmaids went down a treat. Johannés little sister was so sweet and her best friend just about held it together!

I’m not crying… you’re crying!

Chloe did a few last minute touch ups for Johanne, while her parents continued to have fun in the background… haha.

We love Johannés expression in this shot above. It’s the moment Chloe showed her what she looked like all made up to perfection and ready to go to the church.

There’s always time for a few selfies before getting married and we just love photographing brides and bridesmaids taking photographs of themselves. So many classic facial expressions!

The boys arrived at the church in regimented style. St Barnabas is a beautiful old church in Christchurch. Both inside and out! If you’re looking for a church in Christchurch to get married then you can’t really beat this beauty in Fendalton.

Johanné’s dad gave her a quick kiss on the cheek just before they walked down the aisle together. We live for moments like these! With 2 photographers we can be there to capture magic moments like this at the back of the church and then also capture ‘walking down the aisle’ shots from the front of the church. Andie hangs out at the back and Rob shoots from the front. There’s even room for videography.

Needless to say… Josh was blown away by his beautiful bride. Priceless expressions to follow…

The couple’s good friends sang at their wedding which was really lovely.

So many emotions… so many shots! We were able to deliver a lot of fab candid shots from this wedding. As documentary wedding photographers it’s natural wedding photos like these that we LOVE!

As predicted… dad also struggled to hold it together as the couple said their vows and exchanged rings. Sorry not sorry we will always be there to get these shots ;)

Just sign here, here and here…

First kiss of dreams. What a fab church to get married in!

Got to love a drone pic of everyone at the church after the ceremony.

When Johanné + Josh told us they’d like to do their wedding portraits in the Port Hills we were delighted! You can’t beat the idyllic hills above Christchurch and we made sure we found some excellent locations in advance of the wedding day that were in easy access of their wedding venue.

Could these Christchurch wedding portraits be any more idyllic?

Yes, yes they could. Johannés veil becomes a cloud.

Mount Pleasant Centre is well, a very pleasant place for a wedding party! Its modern architechture and space is the perfect blank canvas for a wedding reception. Johanné + Josh are creative souls and did a lot of the styling themselves… including handmade napkins and baking the cutest cookies with couple’s wedding date 22.01.22 stamped on them. Skills!

To our delight Bacon Brothers were catering for the reception. These guys make the best casual event food around and our couples just love them! This was the second time in a week that our wedding clients had chosen Bacon Bros for their wedding catering. It’s because they make super delicious burgers and sides and they’re simply perfect for a Kiwi wedding.

This gorgeous cake was made by a family friend! Normally, we’d say make sure you book wedding professionals for ALL the key elements required for your wedding day… but these guys made some significant savings by doing so much themselves and collectively with their talented friends and family. In all honesty, we just assumed that some pro wedding stylists had come to the venue to set it all up. Everything looked ah-mazing!

We really enjoy photographing the reactions to speeches. It’s fun to capture the laughter, shock, horror and squirming ;)

Johannés mum surprised the couple with a song. It was epic!

The shots above and below show the space available at Mt Pleasant for a medium to large wedding. There’s plenty of room to feast and party! Can you see Andie (above) photographing Johannés mum singing to our happy couple? This is a good example of how we blend into the background and let our lenses get the close ups without anyone noticing! ;)

After first dance the couple partied HARD into the night and so did their friends and family. The dance floor went wild and there was lots of singing, plenty of back spins and even some broom limbo! We had the BEST DAY with these guys.

Johanné + Josh: “Robin + Andie are literally the best photographers out there - just saying! The amount of care, effort & work they put into the pre-wedding shoot & the wedding shoot was just amazing & so appreciated. They genuinely care about their clients & are just so easy to have around throughout your wedding day. They're chill, professional, and lovely people. Our wedding photos are absolutely beautiful & we couldn't have asked for anything better or more special! Would recommend them to anyone needing photographers. Thanks guys! Heaps of love!”
